Overview
After the sixth seal, 144,000 Jewish men are sealed and the Rapture takes place. At the seventh seal, there is silence in Heaven before God’s wrath is poured out. From there, the trumpet judgments begin, executing the first phase of God’s wrath. Before the seventh trumpet, the mystery of God, the salvation of Israel, is completed. Then the seventh trumpet is blown, announcing that Jesus is King over the earth. The Marriage of the Lamb also occurs.
Here’s where things get complicated. Revelation has two pauses. They explain previous events in greater detail and tell us how these situations end up. The first pause is in Revelation 12-14. It’s a recap of what happened in Revelation 6-11 with some extra details. Revelation 12:1-16 looks at Satan’s failed attempts to stop God’s plan of salvation for humanity. Revelation 12:17-13:18 looks at the Great Tribulation in more detail. Revelation 13:1-10 focuses on the Antichrist and Revelation 13:11-18 profiles the False Prophet.
Revelation 14:1-5 highlights the Jewish remnant that fled at the beginning of the Great Tribulation. The 144,000 Jews rejoice with Christ. They’re the first fruits of the national salvation of Israel. God protects them in the wilderness during the Great Tribulation. They’re sealed a little before the wrath of God is poured out and they’re saved when Christ returns during the Day of the Lord.
Revelation 14:6-13 concludes the discussion about the Great Tribulation. Revelation 14:6-7 describes an angel that preaches the Gospel of the Kingdom. Verse 8 mentions that the Antichrist and the ten kingdoms attack Babylon the Great. Revelation 14:9-13 says that those who receive the Mark of the Beast are punished for all eternity, but Christians who stand firm in faith are eternally blessed. Revelation 14:14-16 depicts the Rapture and finally, verses 17-20 examine the Battle of Jehoshaphat.
In Revelation 15, we see the preparation for the bowl judgments, the final wrath of God. Revelation 16 details these judgments, including the destruction of the Antichrist and the False Prophet.
Revelation 17:1-19:5 is another break in the action, the second pause of Revelation. It focuses on the fall of Babylon the Great during the Great Tribulation and its total destruction by God during the Day of the Lord. Revelation 19:6-10 expands on the Marriage of the Lamb and verses 11-21 depict the Battle of Armageddon.
Revelation 20-22 talks about the 1,000-year reign of Christ and the conclusion of God’s judgment. Satan is bound, the first resurrection is completed and after being released, Satan leads a failed rebellion and is tossed into the Lake of Fire. The White Throne Judgment occurs. After this, the Lord gives us more details about life during the Kingdom period, focusing on the new heaven, the new earth and New Jerusalem. Finally, Revelation 22 has an invitation to receive Jesus and a warning for those who reject Him.
